Our packing services wrap your furniture in stretch film and moving blankets on moving day, so every piece rides the truck and passes through doorways covered. The same crew wraps, loads, drives and unloads. You pay our hourly crew rate for the time actually worked. We move within Pennsylvania only: Philadelphia, its suburbs and long-distance moves inside the state.
Below you’ll see how the wrapping looks in our own photos, what we won’t put on the truck, how the clock runs and how to check our licenses before you book.
Key takeaways: packing with CarePhilly Movers
- Packing means wrapping furniture in stretch film and moving blankets as part of the move.
- Film keeps dust off and holds parts together. Blankets soften impacts.
- Billing is hourly with a 3-hour minimum. There is no flat price for local moves.
- Cash, jewelry, documents and medications ride with you, not on our truck.
- Moves within Pennsylvania only. You can check our PA PUC and USDOT records yourself.
What our packing services cover on moving day
Our packing services cover one thing: wrapping furniture in stretch film and moving blankets so it rides the truck and goes through doorways protected. Packing isn’t a separate appointment. It is part of the same residential moving job. The crew that wraps a dresser or a table also carries it out, loads it, drives it and unloads it at the new place.
If you’re wondering what mover packing services actually protect against, the answer is the ordinary damage of a move:
- scratches on finished surfaces;
- dents from bumps against door frames and railings;
- scuffed corners;
- the dust that settles on everything inside a truck.
The packing supplies doing this work are simple. Film clings and holds. Blankets cushion. On white glove moving jobs, furniture wrapping is part of the service, and it’s the part you see happening in your rooms.
Professional packing services are easier to judge when you can see them. The next two sections show our own work: a wooden table in film and a headboard in film over blankets. After that come the practical details worth knowing before the crew arrives.
Wrapping a wooden table in stretch film
Stretch film on a wooden table does two jobs: it holds loose parts together and keeps dust and moisture off the finish while the table travels. What it doesn’t do is cushion, so it’s worth knowing which job you need from it before a table goes onto the truck.

Here our mover is working stretch film around a wooden table during packing, as part of our white glove moving service. The film covers the table so its surface stays clean and its parts stay together on the way out of the house and into the truck.
The craft reasoning is straightforward. Wood shows marks easily, and wooden surfaces scratch most readily at the edges and on the legs. Those are also the parts that come closest to door frames, stair walls and other furniture while a table is carried. A film layer keeps grit and dust from sitting on those surfaces, where it could rub in as the piece moves.
Removable legs or leaves can also come off before wrapping. That falls under furniture disassembly, which is one of our services. A tabletop without its legs is flatter and easier to handle, which matters when you’re moving heavy furniture through a narrow hall, and detached parts can be wrapped on their own so they don’t rub against the finish in the truck. Whether a table comes apart depends on how it’s built, so include it in the photos you send for a quote.
What stretch film does and doesn’t do
- Does: keeps dust and moisture off the surface.
- Does: holds drawers, doors and loose parts together.
- Doesn’t: soften an impact on its own. That’s what moving blankets are for.
Headboards: stretch film over moving blankets
A headboard is commonly wrapped in two layers: moving blankets first, then stretch film over them. The blanket absorbs knocks and protects upholstery and corners. The film keeps the blanket from sliding off on the way to the truck.

This is one of our movers wrapping a headboard in moving blankets and stretch film, a white glove moving job in progress. The blankets give the padding, and the film over them holds that padding in place while the piece is carried.
Each layer covers the other’s weak spot:
- Film alone keeps a headboard clean, but it gives almost no cushion if a corner meets a wall.
- A blanket alone cushions well, but it can shift or drop on stairs and in a moving truck.
- Together, the padding stays where the impacts happen: on the corners and the upholstered face.
This combination is standard craft in packing for moving companies, not a trick of our own. A headboard is a wide, flat piece, so it has long edges and corners that are easy to bump on a turn or a landing. That is exactly where a blanket earns its place. With us, “pack and move” is one job: the same crew wraps the headboard, loads it, drives it and unloads it.
A headboard is usually detached from the bed frame before wrapping. It travels as a flat panel and is reassembled at the new place, which falls under furniture assembly.
What we don’t pack and don’t put on the truck
Some items we don’t pack or carry at all, and others should stay with you. As a packing company for moving, we do not carry hazardous materials, explosives, firearms, illegal substances, flammable liquids, propane tanks or perishable food unless approved in writing.
Cash, jewelry, documents, medications and other high-value items travel with the customer, not on our truck.
| Rides with you | Not on our truck unless approved in writing |
|---|---|
| Cash | Hazardous materials |
| Jewelry | Explosives |
| Documents | Firearms |
| Medications | Illegal substances |
| Other high-value items | Flammable liquids |
| Propane tanks | |
| Perishable food |
Before the crew arrives, set your own items aside in a separate bag and keep it in your car or by the door. That way nothing gets wrapped or loaded by mistake, and our packing supplies go only on furniture headed for the truck.
Why wrapping matters in Philadelphia rowhouses and trinity houses
Wrapping matters in Philadelphia homes because so many furniture moves here go through tight stairways. Rowhouses are the most common type of home in the city. Trinity houses are tighter still: they stack three or four floors of about one room each, joined by small winding stairways. That makes moving heavy furniture between floors hard.
On a stairway like that, a piece is likely to touch walls and railings on the turns. A wrapped piece is better protected when that happens: the blanket takes the knock and the film keeps the blanket in place.
Wrapping doesn’t make furniture smaller, though. In a house with tight stairs, some pieces have to come apart first through furniture disassembly. Some simply won’t make the turn. One client described what happened on her move:
“When they tried to take a couch down a flight of stairs that didn’t fit, they warned me about potential damage — it didn’t end up working so they moved it to a different location”
— Maya Hanson, Google, August 16, 2026
If you’re comparing Philadelphia movers for a house with narrow stairs, show those stairs in your photos. The same goes for an apartment with a tight landing. Measured or at least clearly pictured stairs say more about the job than any description.
Packing services prices: how our hourly rate works
Packing services are billed at our hourly crew rate because the crew that wraps your furniture also moves it. There is no separate packing line in this price list.
| Crew | Hourly rate |
|---|---|
| 2 movers + truck | $150/hour (truck included) |
| 3 movers + truck | $200/hour (truck included) |
| 4 movers + truck | $250/hour (truck included) |
3-hour minimum.
Here is how the clock works:
- It starts when our truck leaves the Northeast Philadelphia terminal.
- It stops when unloading is done.
- Driving between addresses is billed.
- The return trip to the terminal is on us.
- There is no separate mileage charge.
There’s no flat price for local moves. The estimate is non-binding, and the bill is the hourly rate for the time actually worked.
Rough times for residential moving look like this:
- a studio apartment: 3–4 hours;
- a one-bedroom: 4–6 hours;
- a two-bedroom: 6–8 hours;
- a house: 8–12 hours or more.
These figures are very approximate.
Small moves take less time, so they cost less. One client put it this way: “The price was better than all other estimates we received” (Denis Rumansev, Google). Your own number comes from photos or a video of what you’re moving.
What makes a packing and moving job take longer
A packing and moving job takes longer when there’s more to carry or more distance to carry it. These are the factors that set the time:
- how much stuff there is;
- stairs and the number of floors;
- whether there’s an elevator;
- how far the truck can park from the door;
- furniture that has to come apart;
- the distance between addresses.
Parking is the factor people forget. A moving truck on a Philadelphia city street needs a Temporary No Parking permit. The permit is requested from the city at least four business days before the move. It costs $25 per 40 feet of curb per day, or $50 in Center City and University City. Forty feet is about two parking spaces. You can apply on the city’s Temporary No Parking permit page. When the truck stands at the curb, mover packing services and loading go faster than when every piece is carried down the block.
The drive between addresses counts too. The Schuylkill Expressway (I-76) is the busiest road in Pennsylvania, with about 163,000 vehicles a day in Philadelphia County, and it’s known for chronic congestion. Since time between addresses is billed, traffic on that stretch shows up in the total.

Booking, rescheduling and what to have ready
Booking takes a non-refundable $150 deposit, which holds your moving date and time and counts toward the final bill. The rest of the terms are short:
- Rescheduling: you can reschedule once without losing the deposit if you give at least 72 hours’ notice.
- Cancelling: cancelling less than 72 hours before the move may add a cancellation fee.
- Payment: it is due when the job is done. We take cash, credit or debit card, Zelle, Cash App, Venmo or certified funds. A processing fee may apply to card payments.
We pick up the phone from 7 a.m. That helps with last minute moving and urgent relocation, though availability depends on the day. One client’s experience:
“Great company. I called and was able to get my belongings moved the same day. Great company and great service. Highly recommend”
— Catherine Hankerson, Google
A few related services are worth mentioning when you book:
- A piano is a separate service: piano moving.
- Fragile items can be crated: crating.
- If your building asks for a certificate of insurance, we help with that: COI assistance.
Mention any of these in your request so the quote covers them.
Protection, claims and the licenses you can check yourself
You can verify our licenses yourself instead of taking our word for it. That’s the most useful answer we can give to the question about red flags.
CarePhilly Movers is licensed by the Pennsylvania PUC as a household goods carrier, utility code 8928034. You’ll find the record in the PA PUC registry, listed under CarePhilly Movers LLC.
USDOT 4479673 is registered for moves within Pennsylvania only. You can look up that number in the U.S. DOT’s public SAFER lookup.
Cargo (Form H) and liability (Form E) insurance filings are on record with the PA PUC.
Basic released-value protection is $0.60 per pound per article, and it is not full replacement value. Wrapping in film and blankets is how residential moving and white glove moving jobs keep damage from happening in the first place. Still, know the protection level before move day.
Loss or damage claims go in writing within 5 calendar days after the move.

Get your packing quote from photos or a video
The fastest way to get a quote for packing services is to send us photos or a video, or ask us to come and look. Make sure the pictures show three things:
- the pieces that need wrapping;
- the stairs at both addresses;
- the spot where the truck can park.
That works for small moves and full houses alike. The estimate is non-binding, and the bill follows the time actually worked.
FAQ
-
What does a packing service include?
With us, packing is part of the move. The crew wraps furniture in stretch film and moving blankets, then loads it, drives it and unloads it at the new address. Our own photos show a wooden table wrapped in film and a headboard in blankets with film over them. For an exact scope, send photos of your pieces.
-
How much do people charge for packing?
We can speak only for our own rates: 2 movers + truck $150/hour, 3 movers + truck $200/hour, 4 movers + truck $250/hour, with a 3-hour minimum. There’s no separate packing price. The bill is the hourly rate for the time actually worked. Send photos or a video for an estimate.
-
Who are the cheapest movers in Philadelphia?
We won’t rank other companies. Here’s how our bill works. There’s no flat price for local moves, and you pay for the time actually worked. The return trip to our terminal isn’t billed, and there’s no separate mileage charge. The exact amount comes from photos or a video of your items.
-
What are red flags when hiring movers?
The simplest step is checking records yourself. Look us up in the PA PUC registry under utility code 8928034 and in the SAFER lookup under USDOT 4479673. Basic protection is $0.60 per pound per article and is not full replacement value. Loss or damage claims go in writing within 5 calendar days.
-
Why wrap a headboard in both blankets and stretch film?
The blanket softens impacts and protects corners and upholstery. The film holds the blanket in place so it doesn’t slip on stairs or in the truck. Film alone gives little cushion, and a blanket alone can shift. Used together, they cover each other’s weak spot, which is exactly what one of our photos shows.
-
Will wrapped furniture fit up the winding stairs of a trinity house?
Wrapping protects a piece from walls and railings, but it doesn’t make it smaller. Trinity houses have small winding stairways between floors, so some furniture gets disassembled first, and some won’t fit at all. In one client’s case, a couch didn’t fit down the stairs, so it was moved to a different location.
-
Can you pack my jewelry, documents and medications?
No. Cash, jewelry, documents, medications and other high-value items travel with the customer, not on our truck. Set them aside in a separate bag ahead of time. We also don’t carry hazardous materials, flammable liquids, propane tanks or perishable food unless approved in writing.
-
Do you offer long distance packing services from Philadelphia?
Yes, within Pennsylvania only. Long-distance moves inside the state are quoted individually, with the same wrapping and the same crew. USDOT 4479673 is registered for moves within Pennsylvania only, so we don’t take out-of-state moves. Send your details through the quote form to get started.
